Brothers

I just love my brothers.  All of them are totally smart and very funny.  They also happen to be very capable when it comes to construction/repair things.  They all either work in construction now, or have in the past.  So, naturally, while we have been working on our kitchen and bathrooms, I have called them for advice.  A lot.  I'm sure way more than they want me to.  (It sure would be much easier if they would just come and do all this stuff, instead of talk us through it on the phone, but NO.  They live 2,000 miles away and have jobs and families and real life and stuff.)

Nate, R.Jay, and John--at R.Jay's wedding
So, here's a sampling of questions I asked them, and their answers.  All three different brothers, mind you.

Me:  So, you think I should use the regular sealer on the tile instead of that new spray stuff that seems a lot easier?

Him:  Well, it depends on if you want to use water in your shower or not.

Me:  So, do you think we should spend the extra $40 and get the better toilet?

Him:  Well, I guess it depends on if you want to keep your dirty, nasty plunger for occasional use, or if you just want to throw it away already.

Me:  So, how important are those CGI outlets in the bathroom anyway?

Him:  Well, it depends on how often you blow dry your hair with a sink full of water and then drop the blow dryer in the sink while it's on.

Helpful, aren't they?  :)

Aftermath

I am so excited that our bathroom is finally finished.  I like the way it turned out.  I love the color and the clean classic look of it.  Best of all it functions so much better for us.  Here are a few before (well, sort of during, as you can tell by the painter's tape on the wall, the pile of junk on the toilet) and after pictures.  And now, this weekend, it's on to our Master Bathroom renovation we go! Wahoo!  (Ugh--not excited....but at least we get to enjoy the girls' beautiful bathroom for a while.)

The Signs Don't Lie

Signs that today was not really my best day:
*I got all the way dressed (shoes and everything), decided to put on a necklace last minute, and thought as I looked in the mirror, 'this shirt just is not fitting right,' and realized it was because I didn't have a bra on.  Uh, whoops.  Thank goodness for necklaces.
*I put my sunglasses on my head to walk out the door and realized I had curlers in my hair.  I was already halfway to my car.
*I renewed some books online so I wouldn't have to go to the library to return them, and then when I had passed the library, had a mini-freak-out because I forgot to bring the books with me.
*I went to Lowes to look at toilet paper holders for the girls' bathroom, and looked at towel hooks instead.
*I told King not to worry about picking up his prescription at Target--I would grab it in the morning so I could bring it to him on our lunch date.  Then, just thirty minutes later, decided (clever me) that if I went to Target on the way home from lunch, I could buy milk there and not have to go to the grocery store.  Uh, sorry honey.
*I took Cinderella to get her Learner's Permit at the BMV.  She can officially drive my car if I am in the passenger seat.  I get to teach her to drive.  (I'm sure King will help.) Heaven help us all.

Signs that today was a great day:
*I made it to lunch with King and a dear friend (with a bra on, and no curlers in my hair) and had really good food and even better conversation.
*I found some lovely towel hooks for the girls' bathroom.
*I took Cinderella to get her Learner's Permit.  In one year and 180 days, she can drive the twins anywhere I want her to, pick up prescriptions, and buy toilet paper holders.  Just simple stuff like that.  Which will certainly come in handy if I have another day where my brain works like it did today.  So, you know, just a year and a half of leaving my house on half-brain days.  That's not long, right?  Right?  Right.  We're just fine.

Stage Stars

Dear Edwina Jr. is a cute little show.  It was very age appropriate for a middle school production, and has a great message:  be kind, be polite, be smart, be brave, and be yourself.  Snow White and Sleeping Beauty did a fabulous job.  All the kids did.  I was especially proud of Snow White for taking on the ballerina role for Saturday's show with just a few days notice.  I was way more nervous than she was.  I shouldn't have been--she was perfect.  The girls both had a great time rehearsing and being in the show, and we had a great time in the audience.  Thanks to our friends who came to support them as well!

Here are a few little snippets and pictures for the Grandmas and Aunties, including a very poor quality (why won't it let me upload any video except the junky condensed for email one?!) video short of the show.  An 80 minute show, in just 8 minutes!  You're welcome.  :)
