First Day of Summer

As tradition requires, we went to our favorite ice cream place the first day of summer.  This was the first time we had lunch and then played card games until we were hungry enough for dessert.  We think this part of the fun will also become tradition.  Because, what is better than yummy onion rings and tater tots washed down with shakes?  Delish.

Last Day

Today is the last day of school around these parts.  Boy, has it been a busy month.  I am working on an update post, but, like most things in my life, it is taking longer than I had planned, so today you get this....

Snow White and Sleeping Beauty finished up 7th grade.  Snow White's favorite was art, and she is looking forward to being in Honors Art next year for the entire year.  I'm thrilled for her, as I can see some natural talent and she enjoys it so much.  Sleeping Beauty loved Family and Consumer Science class, particularly the sewing and cooking.  Not so much the budgeting and family of origin activities.  I hope (hope, hope) to do some sewing with her this summer.  Snow White finished up the track season and both are looking forward to spending some quality time in the pool in the next few weeks.

Cinderella finished her Freshman year of High School.  (Yikes.  I can't believe that.)  She did really well, and after a rough start in Geometry, pulled all of her grades up and stayed on top of things.  She took the ACT, just for "practice" (seriously, who is this kid?) and actually didn't do too terribly, even though she'd never heard of half of the science stuff.  The thing I am most proud of her for this year is her 100% attendance at early-morning seminary.  They studied the Old Testament this year, and she enjoyed learning and starting her day off on the right foot with eternal concepts and feeling the Spirit.  She missed only two days, one for a doctor appointment, and one while she was in California, but had eight make-up work days done.  Anyway, I'm proud of her for making it a priority and the way her relationship with the Savior has grown because of it.

And now, summer begins.  I'm pretty sure I'm not quite ready for it, but the girls are.  I must work today to get a chore chart ready for a reveal at our favorite out of town ice cream spot.  It's tradition to go there the first day of summer, and I would severely disappoint them if I did not have the traditional summer schedule ready to go. (Ha.)

Until next time....

Family Histrionics

Cinderella checked the Young Women monthly calendar and said, "Ah man.  We are doing Family History this Wednesday.  Ugh."

"Boring," said Sleeping Beauty.

"Huh?" said Snow White from across the house, "What did you say?"

"So, Family History,"  said Cinderella, "That means only one of us really has to go.  And not me."

"Not me!" said SB.

"What?  What's happening?" yells SW, still in the other room.

"You're it," yells Cinderella to SW.

"Wait?!  For what?  What is going on?!"

Such nice girls I have.  (Who will all, I am sorry to say, be attending the Family History activity on Wednesday evening.)

Yum

I think an easy way to sum up how it's been around here the past couple of weeks or so would be to list the culinary delights my family has been served for dinner by me or a desperate King.  Or even more desperate children serving themselves.  Behold:
  1. Cold Cereal
  2. Cold Ham Sandwiches
  3. Ramen noodles
  4. Pancakes
  5. Scrambled Eggs
  6. Wendy's chicken nuggets
  7. Cold Cereal
  8. Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Pineapple, Strawberries & dip, and Green Bean Casserole
  9. Nachos
  10. Ramen
  11. Popcorn
  12. Canned Soup
  13. Bread
  14. Muffins
  15. Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwiches, Strawberries, Grapes, Cookies and Salad
  16. Steak, Rice, Spinach Salad, Pineapple, Melon, Oranges and Chocolate Torte
  17. McDonalds cheeseburgers
  18. Pancakes
Don't even think we stooped to using paper plates for any of these meals, though.  I insisted we use real silverware and dinnerware.  I'm just fancy like that.

I am sure it doesn't take an advanced degree to notice that three of these meals are not like the others.  Yep, those were days when we were invited to eat with other families.  So no worrying about my children's nutrition or anything.  We totally got it covered.
